Housing Studio

Home means different things to different people. Our experience in designing and building living spaces that are appropriate to the use reflects this and includes a wide spectrum of housing types.

Public Housing - Public Housing contributes to building and preserving healthy neighborhoods and communities while maintaining and expanding home ownership and rental housing. WMF is committed to playing a part in this valuable community asset.

Student Housing - Student housing preferences have undergone tremendous change over the past few decades. The expectations for the ‘home away from home’ continue to rise and the challenge of balancing a student’s need for community, and privacy has never been greater. Student demographics are also driving requirements. Freshman, upperclassman, graduate, international, Greek, and special needs groups all have different housing wants and needs.

Multi-Family Housing - This segment of our housing portfolio covers a wide range of housing needs. Properties have consisted of affordable and elderly housing in both the private and public sectors; apartment complexes and condominium developments.

Senior & Retirement Housing - The senior and retirement housing market has experienced a wholesale transformation over the past decade or so. The active senior lifestyle is often the first housing need created by the empty nest. As healthcare needs increase senior housing elements change. WMF has experience with the full spectrum of housing; active lifestyle, independent living, assisted living, Alzheimer’s/dementia, and hospice.

Mixed-Use Housing - In cities throughout America there has been a significant renewed consumer interest in recent years in the attraction of central downtown locations and older downtown neighborhoods. People are recognizing and rediscovering the benefits of living and working in a downtown setting. Recently this configuration has evolved into Live / Work housing.

Live / Work Housing -This segment of housing is comprised of two different segments; Live/Work and Work/Live. Live/work indicates the quiet enjoyment expectations of the neighbors in the building or adjacent buildings take precedence over the work needs of the unit in question. The predominant use of a live/work unit is residential. The term work/live means that the needs of the work component take precedence over the quiet enjoyment expectations of residents. The predominant use of a work/live unit is commercial or industrial work activity.

Recreational Housing - Often associated with resorts, recreational housing is in most cases a second home. This condition has exploded in recent years, with the recreational home becoming the retirement home upon leaving the work force. The majority of our recreational housing portfolio involves either waterfront locales or ski areas.

Special Needs Housing - Special needs housing involves bringing social services and housing to special needs groups. It includes projects for transitional housing, women/children crisis centers, handicapped/disabled, HIV/AIDS, and drug/alcohol rehabilitation housing.
